After you create a library, you are ready to add content to that library. As with creating a library, the Library Manager is the tool that you use to add content to your library. The Library Manager enables you to add content to your library using Collection Builder or Collection Reference nodes.
Collection builders enable you to build and update content collections within the Library Manager interface from content residing in a file system, ODBC, or LotusNotes® databases. Collection references enable you to reference, or point to, an existing content collection that you may have built outside the Library Manager or one that you have received from another publisher to include in your library.
The following is a brief overview of the different ways that you can add content to your library as well as properties that are common to the collection builder nodes.
You can build content collections within the Library Manager using collection builder nodes. These nodes leverage the NXT 4 Content Bridges to access content within the different content reservoirs. However, every collection builder has as set of properties that are common to all builder nodes, regardless of the content bridge you use. These properties help uniquely identify your content collection from others in your library, and help determine what of the source content gets included in your content collection for publishing.
To build the hierarchy of facet categories, use a facet template match to define the algorithm for including the documents to the appropriate facet categories. You can create several template matches in the indexsheet (.xil
file). The number of template matches that you create is flexible: each template match can generate thousands of facet categories, each facet category can include tens of thousands of documents, and each document can include more than one facet category in different facets. You can choose to create a few template matches that product a large number of results, or you can choose to create many template matches that produce more specific results. When the content collection is built, sets of facet categories are generated from each template match defined in the indexsheet.
You can build a content collection from files that reside on your file system and preserve the native format of the content. The File System Content Bridge enables you to do this. The File System Content Bridge works according to document, or content types to build a content collection. You can customize the structure of the files the content bridge places in your content collection or you can let the order mirror order in your file system. All content is fully indexed for searching.
You can build a content collection from content that resides in an Open Database Connectivity compliant database with the ODBC Content Bridge. This content bridge receives information from you for accessing an ODBC database, and builds your content collection according to SQL queries you provide. These SQL queries define the structure of the resultant table of contents as well as determine what content the content bridge retrieves from the database to place in your content collection. All content is fully indexed for searching.
You can build a content collection from content that resides in a Lotus Notes database. The Lotus Notes Content Bridge reads a Lotus Notes database and, based on the views it is configured to read, iterates through each of the Notes contained in that view. By iterating through the view, the content bridge is able to determine the hierarchical structure of the view and add this structure to the NXT 4 site at an appropriately designated point in the NXT 4 table of contents.
You can include content collections that you build with ccBuild or receive from another publisher in your library. This means that you do not have to rebuild your existing content collections just to include them in your library. You can now leverage the benefits of library management without changing your current business processes. This content too is fully indexed for searching.
