File System Content Bridge

The File System Content Bridge builds NXT 4 content collections from files (documents and folders) residing on your file system, and is one of three "Collection Builder" options (ODBC and LotusNotes® Content Bridges are the others) NXT 4 supports. The Library Manager is the tool, or interface, you use to build a content collection with this content bridge.

The File System Content Bridge creates a complete index (for searching) of the content included in the file system, and also creates the table of contents for the content collection based on the directory structure of the source file system. You can create higher level table of content structure (external to your content collections) directly within the Library Manager Content Tree pane.

Although the Library Manager is the tool/interface for you to build a content collection, it cannot function without assistance. The File System Content Bridge relies on information you provide with the Library Manager interface to build a content collection. The term "build" describes the process of creating or updating a content collection from the folders, documents, and other files of your file system source content. The Library Manager enables you to build one or more content collections at the same time. The following is a summary of information you will need to provide through the Library Manager interface so the File System Content Bridge can build your content collection:

The Library Manager interface is not the only place where you can set properties, rules, and values for your content collections and their respective content. You may also directly modify the build configuration files to set similar and more customized properties, rules, and values.
